ΤΟ ΠΟΥΛΙ ΜΕ ΤΙΣ ΑΛΗΘΕΙΕΣ/THE BIRD THAT SPOKE THE TRUTH
THE BIRD THAT SPOKE THE TRUTH
Forgetfulness covered the past, the unknown besieges the house
ghosts of things we loved and lost
and now only the cob webs know the future — but nostalgia
for the unknown has won us from young age and
loneliness
has promised us the long distances. Oh, the children we were with
those long neckties
for a childhood so short. And Maria that the evening breeze shivered
among the ribbons of her hat
in different constellations — we never reached her. And I’ve loved
passionately everything I was never meant to know. And I’ve lived all
my life in a dream
and immortality in a few cognacs.

One morning a bird sat on the tree on the other side of the road and chirped
something.
Oh, if I could understand what it wanted to tell me perhaps I would have
discovered the meaning of the world.
